FAQ

"How old does my child have to be to start lessons?"
We make learning fun for younger children by incorporating musical games into our lessons. Through these games, we teach them about the geography of the keyboard and provide an introduction to the basics of music notation. We've had great success teaching children as young as four years old and find that it sets them up for when they begin to play on their own. By already knowing how to read notes and where to find them on the piano, they have a solid foundation to build upon.

"Do we need to buy workbooks etc. on top of the lesson costs?"
We have our own workbook that is included in your lesson price and we'll also provide sheet music for other songs that we learn in your lessons as well as other bits and bobs as needed.
There are some books that we might suggest that you buy and if you're working towards an exam then it would definitely help for you to purchase your own copy of the exam book. -
"I only have a keyboard, do I need a piano before I can start lessons?"
We can start out learning the basics on a keyboard but there is only so far that we can progress before you'll need to upgrade.
While an acoustic piano is obviously preferable, there are plenty of really good digital pianos that would be great to learn on. The things we'll need most are sustain pedal functionality and 'weighted' keys that simulate piano keys.
If you want to discuss the options then we're more than happy to help find the right piano for you! -
"Why am I still paying for lessons during the summer holidays?"
We spread the cost of all of a year's lessons equally over 12 months.
This means that you always pay the same amount per month and are able to set up a standing order, making it easier for you to budget and keep track of payments. -
"We've got a holiday booked and won't be able to make a lesson, what do we do?"
We totally understand that life can be hectic and you may not be able to make a lesson for one reason or another.
Let us know as soon as possible and we'll always try to make up that lesson at a time that suits everyone - this can be by rescheduling the lesson or increasing the length of other lessons.
We'll make sure that you're not losing out! -
"I know someone else who would like lessons, can I pass them your details?"
Yes! We're always happy to hear from people who want to learn and we'd love to see if we can fit them in to our schedule.

"Do you enter students for their piano exams?"
Our main focus is always on enjoyment and progression rather than exam results. As such, we only enter students for piano exams if they request it.
We will keep students and parents up to date with how they're progressing and let them know if they're at the required level for exams so they can make the decision though. -
"I don't have a piano at home for practice & I don't want to purchase until committed"
We understand that students/parents are reluctant to purchase a piano straight away in case they do not want to continue with lessons. In order to progress, consistent practice is required and you will need something at home to support your learning. We have a selection of keyboards and digital pianos available to hire starting from £15pm to get you going. When you are ready, we can provide assistance in purchasing either an acoustic piano or the right digital piano.
